parks and rec 2/25/12

Shannon needed to count weeds for her class, and invited us to go to the park and play while she hunted weeds. We went to the two parks by our house. Dwayne went to the first one before heading to work. Regan joined us after his nap for the second park. The children were dresses by Jon and both needed and outfit change due to overheating before playing at the second park. We had so much fun.

She insisted on this super heavy dress. I told her that no one wanted to see her underwear and she needed pants to play at the park. This was our compromise.

The other day while looking out the window watching pigeons Kaylee announced, “Uncle Dwayne is a bird. He can fly way up high in the sky. He’s AWESOME!” This picture just reminded me of that, that Uncle Dwayne CAN fly. And he is awesome.

Poor thing “tripped down” and skinned her knee. I snapped photos as I walked up behind the scene.

He tried to be a ball thief. And was not pleased AT ALL when I made him put it back.

These are the spin chairs. As soon as they have weight on them they start spinning.

This is Kaylee after spinning OUT of the chair onto her head. She sat on my lap for quite awhile telling me about her hard day. Skinned knee, Big dog dared to walk past her, and THEN she fell on her noggen. All in less than 10 min. It was just too much for a little miss.

Regan was pointing at all the letters and shouting randomly letters he remembered. The older children would correct his mistakes.

Shannon hard at work.

These two took turns shoving each other on to the squishy mat.

These two were SO cute spinning together. Until they started going TOO fast.

Sometimes being a brother is better than being a superhero.

She decided to brave the toys again.

These two did some great dancing. Too cute!

And Mister Man was all about stealing his cousins hats and strutting.

Awesome.

Sunday the 19th I “pulled a Janice” and slammed my hand in the car door. Awesome. As soon as I did it Jon who was on the other side of the car buckling Regan in asked/yelled, “Is that your hand!?!”

Ya. He could see it on the other side. Awesome. Thankfully Shannon was home so we ran the children over to her house so she could watch them while I went and got x-rayed. Well that was the plan until we arrived to her house and found out that Urgent Care closes at 2 pm on weekends and it was after 4pm.

I refused to go to the E.R. So Shannon had me remove my rings while I could (good thinking), pulled out drugs and fix it stuff and Jon popsicled and taped my hand. I promised Jon if it still hurt I’d let him take me in the next day.

So then we went home and Jon finished up dinner for me and the Days came over for Sunday night dinner as was planned. Which was fun. Really. Helped take my mind off the pain.

The next day it was still all swollen and killer painful and there is lots of blood under my middle nail so I let Jon haul me in for x-rays. He was positive it was broken. Kept saying “I could see your hand on the other side of the door!”

Here’s the funnier part. (Because the whole thing is funny. I laughed. Jon laughed. Josh and the Days laughed. Jack’ee REALLY laughed. ) I have REALLY crooked pinkies. It’s hereditary. Kaylee and Regan have them too. I never think about them. So when the nurse asked to see my hand it didn’t occur to Jon or I that she’d think my pinky was the problem and bump me up to the top of the wait list of a FULL waiting room.

We didn’t realize that that’s what happened until the Dr. popped his head in the exam room to let me know he was just on his way to see how bad my pinky was. He was gone before I could get words out of my mouth. So when he came back I explained with my visual aids that it was not my pinky. He then had to go look at the x-rays again. Awesome.

Good news. It’s my left hand and I’m a righty. SO blessed! Also I didn’t break it. Dr. said I must have really strong bones.

So recovery will be much faster. Although anytime I complain that it still hurts Jon say, “I saw your hand on the OTHER side of the door.” He was a bit traumatized. Poor guy. Was SUPER surface calm when it happened though.

The Dr. said it would take time for it to feel normal since I smashed it so bad. He also cauterized through my nail and “milked” out all the blood to relive pressure and possible save my nail from falling off.

Ya. That hurt. And smelt awful. Burning flesh is never good. But it did make my had feel SO much better. You know once Dr. man was done squeezing all the blood out.

I’ve the last couple days been wearing the brace less and less. And icing less and less. My ring is back on and I can almost make a fist. Awesome.

In the Garden

Saturday the 18th we went on our first “adventure” as Kaylee would call it. And it was so fun. Shannon scored some passes from her library and we took the boys and Kaylee to the Desert Botanical garden. I was amazed at how neat it was. We learned lots. And Kaylee is still telling me what she learned. I was surprised at how few pictures I took. I guess I was too busy reading about and looking at all the cacti.

We saw some fun critters.

They had a stand set up for self photos. It took me a bit, but I figured out how to set the timer on my camera. (I really should read the manual….)

We left before Regan’s nap time, so he stroller napped in this funky position. Got lots of comments from passerby’s. Oh and he’s been obsessed with this handkerchief. Brings it to me daily and says, “I fly!” Arms out stretched like superman and all. I need to whip him up a real cape. He is TOO cute!

We told Kaylee we were going to look at the butterfly garden. On our way we stopped so Shannon could gather/read info she needed to finish her homework. Kaylee got board and said since we would never find the butterfly’s she was going to build a castle.

We found the butterfly’s. She was thrilled.
