SO(y) awesome!

About a monthish ago I took Regan in to see his G.I. Doc for a follow-up. Since Regan is gaining steady weight, and it had been sixish months Dr. K. said it was time to re-try Soy. He also emphasized the importance of starting in the morning and not at night. So I could better monitor Regan’s reaction, and take him into the E.R. if needed. Nice comforting words…… 🙁

I was scared. BUT I went to the store and bought supplies (soy milk and cheese.) Did you know that MOST Soy cheese contains Casein, a.k.a Milk protein? Which is what Regan is allergic to. So 4 stores and five brands of soy cheese label reading fun later I finally found some cheese for Regan to try.

It boggles the mind that a dairy substitute had dairy in it. BOGGLES! I was peeved. Mostly with myself for NOT reading the first bag I brought home until AFTER I had opened it. Reflex/habit kicked in right before I gave some to Regan and there it was in the ingredient listing. Casein, awesome…. There may have been a bit of ranting/whinnying to many people about it.

So Regan had pizza WITH “cheese” and of course loved it.  So we gave him more soy, and I sat around waiting for the signs of wrongness. A week of eating soy came and went and they NEVER came.

And so we are beyond thrilled that Regan can now have soy. I keep randomly thinking of and then happily shouting out foods that he/we as a family can eat now. I feel like the culinary world has been reopened, and it is SO(y) awesome.

And my kiddo is too!

Reganism

I’ve been a bit gimpy for the last couple of months. I have a damaged nerve cluster from a car accident 10 years ago. I have had the nerves cauterized several times for pain relief. But sadly it is not a permanent fix. Nerves grow back and the pain returns. SO my poor kiddos have had to be a bit more patient with me since it just takes me longer to get up and move around.
Kaylee, ever the little Mom has really been wonderful.  She has always been mostly happy to help, but now she is just a doll about helping. She tells me to take my meds and go sit down when she thinks I am over doing it. And even Regan realizes that his Mama is ouchy.  He has to be reminded lots, but he’s two so that’s to be expected.
The children have really done lots of growing up the last couple of months. They know I cannot do everything i used to, and are finding ways to help out in their own way. Regan has become by necessity independent.  And I have to say I love that he no longer demands my company for his potty trips. There have been definite blessings to being less than %100.
So our boy is resourceful. Poor kid got sick of waiting for me hobble over to the kitchen to open his fruit leather.  Kis is serious about snack time. Well eating in general….
This is what I walked in on. He apparently knows where we stash the adult scissors. A stool and 30 seconds is all he needs to open his own snacks.

“Hi Mama. I did it!!”
To which I replied, “Good job buddy! Let me grab the camera.”
Lucky for me the camera was just on the counter. Nice and close.
Oh, and my back is freshly re-cauterized. So life should be getting back to our normal. Meaning for us indoor soccer, dance parties, fort building, zoo trips, walks to the library, etc. etc….
