barbies 003

I got sick of naked barbies. And I saw somewhere online (it was awhile ago, and I don’t remember now) that this Mom had sharpied one piece swim suits on her daughters barbies. GENIUS! So I grabbed Kaylee’s 3 (at the time) barbies and went to town. She LOVED that they were always ready to swim.

Well there was a downside. The poor barbies ended up looking like they were victims of abuse. Look at the Green, Purple, and Jasmine dolls. The sharpie would SLOWLY rub off and give them “bruises”, and it would also wear off in . . . places . . . I was “fixing” suits more often than I’d like to.

So Yesterday Kaylee (She had fun telling me which color went to which doll.) and I pulled out the trusty stash of nail polish. I’ve been nail polishing more than just nails lately and LOVING it. Knobs, wall art, barbies….

I like that there are more colors, and that they are no longer naked. I am hoping that this solution lasts longer than the sharpie solution. It helps in teaching Kaylee about modesty when her barbies that she loves to play with are being modest too.

Awesome.

Sunday the 19th I “pulled a Janice” and slammed my hand in the car door. Awesome. As soon as I did it Jon who was on the other side of the car buckling Regan in asked/yelled, “Is that your hand!?!”

Ya. He could see it on the other side. Awesome. Thankfully Shannon was home so we ran the children over to her house so she could watch them while I went and got x-rayed. Well that was the plan until we arrived to her house and found out that Urgent Care closes at 2 pm on weekends and it was after 4pm.

I refused to go to the E.R. So Shannon had me remove my rings while I could (good thinking), pulled out drugs and fix it stuff and Jon popsicled and taped my hand. I promised Jon if it still hurt I’d let him take me in the next day.

So then we went home and Jon finished up dinner for me and the Days came over for Sunday night dinner as was planned. Which was fun. Really. Helped take my mind off the pain.

The next day it was still all swollen and killer painful and there is lots of blood under my middle nail so I let Jon haul me in for x-rays. He was positive it was broken. Kept saying “I could see your hand on the other side of the door!”

Here’s the funnier part. (Because the whole thing is funny. I laughed. Jon laughed. Josh and the Days laughed. Jack’ee REALLY laughed. ) I have REALLY crooked pinkies. It’s hereditary. Kaylee and Regan have them too. I never think about them. So when the nurse asked to see my hand it didn’t occur to Jon or I that she’d think my pinky was the problem and bump me up to the top of the wait list of a FULL waiting room.

We didn’t realize that that’s what happened until the Dr. popped his head in the exam room to let me know he was just on his way to see how bad my pinky was. He was gone before I could get words out of my mouth. So when he came back I explained with my visual aids that it was not my pinky. He then had to go look at the x-rays again. Awesome.

Good news. It’s my left hand and I’m a righty. SO blessed! Also I didn’t break it. Dr. said I must have really strong bones.

So recovery will be much faster. Although anytime I complain that it still hurts Jon say, “I saw your hand on the OTHER side of the door.” He was a bit traumatized. Poor guy. Was SUPER surface calm when it happened though.

The Dr. said it would take time for it to feel normal since I smashed it so bad. He also cauterized through my nail and “milked” out all the blood to relive pressure and possible save my nail from falling off.

Ya. That hurt. And smelt awful. Burning flesh is never good. But it did make my had feel SO much better. You know once Dr. man was done squeezing all the blood out.

I’ve the last couple days been wearing the brace less and less. And icing less and less. My ring is back on and I can almost make a fist. Awesome.

Random catch-up

So, just some random photos of the last couple months.

Regan is finally being allowed (by Kaylee. A.K.A. she’s sharing.) to have computer time and loving it. My children play Starfall. (Although they do enjoy watching Little Einsteins online as well as some others.) We all LOVE it. I started playing it on Stella with Kaylee when she was just a few months old. Regan even younger as he would sit on my lap and watch while I helped Kaylee.

Kaylee is really getting into playing with dolls. She asked me for the very first time to play dolls with her. Melted my heart. We spent Regan’s 2+ hour nap playing dolls. It was awesome.

She plays the parents and I play the children. We find this to be extra amusing. I like seeing and hearing how she views our little family. She was laughing SO hard when “Daddy” needed to watch T.V. Please note that the Dad doll is laying on the couch for his viewing pleasure.

And it cracks me up when she channels me when the “children” are in trouble.

I am SO grateful that my Mom saved and passed down my childhood dollhouse. Brings back so many memories.

Shannon came by (this visit was during schools Christmas break) and walked us all over to one of the parks by our house. She’s been so great to show me around. And well, she’s just great. If you know her then you know what I mean.

We just found this amusing on our way to the park. Kaylee thought that the snowmen without snow were silly.
The kids all had a blast and we had to pry them away when it was time to go.

So here is the photographic reason why Santa happily brought Kaylee her own make-up. I really don’t wear make-up often, but she’s obsessed. I think it’s the age/stage?….

Regan was quite upset that he was in trouble because his sister could reach tempting things.

We’ve all been LOVING all the cousin/family time.

Christmas cookie decorating. While Regan was napping so he wouldn’t feel left out.

And last, and most exciting. Shannon and I have started home preschool (1.19.12). This is how we’ve been doing it.

First the potty trip. Great for introducing/easing Regan fears, and good peer pressure for Nathan and Regan. Also so class isn’t interrupted by many different potty breaks.

We have “Home room” where we say the pledge of allegiance, sing a song, do the calender, SAY the ABC’s, and talk about the weather.

Then Shannon takes Kaylee and Nathan to the kitchen table for their lesson, and I get to teach Regan and Cassie at the kiddie table.
(Regan is now very excited about letters. They are all A or B as that’s as far as we’ve gotten so far. But if he sees a letter he get’s very excited and yells “A! B!”)

I love that they seem to be enjoying it. And so far it’s going well. I think it will just get better and better as we all get into the new routine.

Kaylee spent the rest of the day after our first day of school teaching her “class”, and quizzing me on the alphabet.

Her class grew in size and diversity (stuffed animals) as the day progressed.

Oh, and after class Shannon and I do a workout. I love having a workout buddy.
