Boy’s room

It took me a few years. Yes, YEARS. But I finally remembered to take a picture of the boy’s room after a cleaning. Because in real life our rooms get used and lived in so they are real life messy.

Also I cannot for the life of me find a before photo of this room. πŸ™ But let me assure you that it’s much better now post blue animal bathroom carpet removal. Holy EEWWWWWW! Serious cement cleaning and kilz ceiling to floor.

***HEY!!! I found a picture of the master bedroom carpet. So you can see the ewww. Cats and dogs doing the business inside all over all the floors. Still have no clue where the before of this room is. But it was in the same condition, just a different shape.***

He wanted a hero themed bedroom. We (I) went with scripture heros. I got these scripture hero cards and we read all the stories and talked about all sorts of real life heros. THEN I let him pick out his three favorite heros to get giant posters of.IMG_1125Jon and Josh built safety rails for the bottom bed for use when we have tiny sleepers. They were a life saver when we had R this last year. The rails are awesome. One goes the entire length of the bed, and the other has a gap for easy access into and out of bed. R used the bottom drawer as a step and could get himself in and out of bed from day one (14 mo), but never accidentally fell out of bed. Basically the rails turned the bottom bunk into a giant easy access crib. I love having handy men in my life. πŸ™‚

IMG_8546He was so little! Little R. I am surprised by how much I really do miss him, even with our fire and ice relationship. He really is SUCH a great kid and I am SO happy he has a Mom he likes and loves ALL the time now. πŸ™‚

I modge podged the small Hero cards onto painted boards to add more color to his room. He also wanted a world map. So that’s over his bed. He’s getting really good at placing countries. We hear lots of “_____ is next to ______ in South America. But we live in North America, and Babushka is from Central America.” He got super into Europe earlier this year when I was gearing up for travel. Lots of “London Baby!”IMG_1126I LOVE that he chose Hannah as one of his heros. We talk a lot about birth moms and how strong they are and how much trust and faith they have. I think Hannah’s story really resonated with him because of years of placement talk. He put it together himself that she did a REALLY hard thing, and that the right thing is not always the easy thing. He wanted her poster to be the first one he saw when entering his room.Β  IMG_1127Our best friends gave us a very cool Captain America canvas print that is now in the boy’s room. IMG_1128Things I love about this room: The colors. Regan picked it all and it’s awesome. The spiritual lift I get when I have a second to spare while in there and I read some scripture passages that are all over his walls. His personal artwork that his pre-school self did just for this space. The bedding that he picked out. Because, “orange is theΒ  best, but not too much okay?” The rugs he picked because they had all the “right” colors.

Purple princess room. Before and After

Kaylee wanted a purple princess room for the “new” house. I knew the children would be sharing so I had a more neutral color in mind. Jon and I always shared a room with siblings, and the kids like sharing a room. So until they get older and it’s odd they will continue to share. This is a before and after of The Nursery. A.K.A the purple princess room.

My first color choice was a shade of green that ended up looking poopy like the carpet. Not good. They (I was still packing in UT.) put one coat on and then called me. We decided that I would pick a new color after seeing the green in person.

I herd nonstop about how great it would be to have a purple princess room. So did everyone else.

Josh said I should just do purple because guys can do purple and it’s a gender neutral color. I told him I’d send Regan his way in later years if I got flack about having him in a purple room. Then Kaylee and I went to the store and I let her pick from three color chips.

2011-10-22_11-41-26_397And here is a photo of said poopy carpet. Literal poop. I decided against posting the dookie photo. GROSS! So this is the master carpet, but it’s all the same. And I am SO happy I missed out on dealing with that beast. They cleaned the cement. A LOT.2011-10-22_11-42-45_316

The room was this pink color that I HATED. And came with popcorn ceilings. So those had to go.2011-09-17_15-44-56_912

The ugly old yellowed switches and outlets went away too.2011-09-17_15-44-31_373 2011-11-11_22-09-54_265Dwayne installed most of the new floor for the house. He’s awesome like that. Pretty pretty floor.

So she got her princess room. But I did it my way. I didn’t want her to grow out of her room in a few years, and then have to do it over. So I decided to make a room that is meaningful for our family and that she can grow with.

I had her grandparents and the Greats that she knows send me a favorite wedding photo for her room. They are her princesses with their princes. AWESOME right?Β  I also got enlargements of Temples that have special meaning for our family, and those are her “castles”. She has for years called temples “Temple castles”.

She started asking us where the baby was going to sleep. So I told her that her bed goes on top of Regan’s and turns into a bunk, and that the crib would go where her bed was. So she NEEDED us to bunk their beds NOW! (This was months ago.) Her reason being that they needed practice sleeping in bunk beds. So…..011 013 021 026 028 033 067

They were VERY excited to go to bed that night.

068 010They LOVE the beds bunked. This was the day I got them new bedding. They like to lay in bed and chat.

This is our cute crib. Shannon gave it to us since we left ours in Utah when we moved. I had planned on just buying one off Craig’s list when we decided to adopt. Well the deciding to adopt happened much faster than I thought it would. πŸ™‚ But it timed out perfectly for scoring this sweet crib.127 126 123 125

A little princess bling on the plain closet doors. I love all the mirrors. They add so much light to the room.131 132

We have (left to right, top to bottom) the St. George, UT Temple, L.A. Temple, Mesa, AZ Temple, the rendering of the Phoenix, AZ Temple, and the SLC, UT Temple.133And now for a side by side comparison.

BAceilingfan BAclosetDoor BAwallFloorWe like it. More important Kaylee LOVES it. She got her purple princess room and couldn’t be happier.

Voting

We got early voting ballots this year, I have no idea why we haven’t done it this way before. It was so nice sitting in bed munching snacks, and chating, with all our voting info spread out. And the lap top to look up additional info as needed.

I especially loved not feeling rushed. In past voting experiences when I had to stand in line for a while, I always felt like I needed to get my ballot filled out ASAP so that those who were behind me in line were not waiting forever for me to finish.

So last night we voted while sitting in bed. This year I got to more thoroughly read up on everyone and everything, and make my informed choices from the comfort and convenience of home. We always read up on whats on the ballot, but it was so nice having everything at our fingertips to re-reference as needed. It was the best voting experience so far.

Remember to VOTE!!!
