It’s been so hot here that I held off on carving the pumpkin until the day of. The kids did not appreciate waiting. I got everything all set out and ready to go and then made them wait even more while Jon helped me glue my hand. Emptying the dishwasher……. It’s perilous. Also I’m the reason we are a plastic dishes house. Jon has his pyrex bake wear, but everything else is stainless steal or plastic.
They were pretty darn excited when it was FINALLY time.
Regan, “EWWW! Pumpkins are SO disgusting.” He ran off to his room and waited until the gross gutting was done.
Kaylee was just the opposite. She got all up in there and was ripping all the seeds out.
I had them draw what they wanted and carve it mostly solo. Kaylee’s side was vampire guts… Regan did a more traditional scary face.
Then Kaylee decided to be “that” sibling and gross her brother out. 
All in all a win for pumpkin carving this year.
