Playset. Part 1

I found some plans online for a play set HERE.  I told Jon it’s what I wanted for my Birthday this year. And Christmas. AND Mother’s Day. He said o.k.

So we went a wood shopping and loaded Josh’s truck up while he watched the kiddos for us. And then we (Jon) read and re-read the plans.

Then we (again Jon) started cutting boards. We took our time. No rush. Laid back pain in the tukis project. Not really. We did take our time, but it wasn’t too terrible getting all the cuts done and boards labeled (that was my job. Labeling.)

Then came the horrendous task of sanding this gigantic puzzle and piecing it together. And of course the painting. (again. my job.)

Jon and Josh testing out the location to make sure the swings would have enough clearance.

Jon propped up the tower frame so I could thouroghly paint the underside of the wood. Rot prevention and all. And yes we did make sure to use the super duper supposedly impervious lifetime guarantee outdoor paint for this bad boy. We will see how the AZ sun does against it.

We started running low on our blue paint and needed more. Jon was all for changing up the color. He took Regan’s little camp lamp to Home Depot and got it color matched. I love it, but as soon as we started painting I was bummed. It needed to be Orange. But alas that realization came post purchase. So red it is.

The children were very excited/anxiously waiting for us to hang the swings.

So out came the flood lights and the boys got to measuring. They needed new measurements since I got different swings than in the plans. We also flipped the whole thing to face the opposite than in the plans. I sure am glad that the boys could figure all those numbers out and make everything work. IF it was up to me we’d still be staring at the miter saw in horror. Math and I are not on good terms.

BUT the boys, they are A OK with the math. Look at that tower, A frame, and swing beam!

Next up. Safety railing for the tower, enclosing the sand box, adding a roof, and oh yes, the color ORANGE!

Zoo trip

This trip was with out porta potty incident. Which was nice. We visited the children’s section of the zoo this trip. Which was AWESOME. I love going to the zoo. I love that Shannon is sweet to haul us with her. It’s great fun.
These two were in the stroller long enough for the threat of going back in it if they ran off to work.
The children (Shannon and I did too) thought that the cow to milk was neat-o.
My sad attempt to get a picture of my two in their adoption shirts. Regan’s says Adoption Rocks with a guitar. His is sort of hard to see in pictures. Kaylee’s is easy to see in pictures.
Kaylee is still super afraid of animals. I was way impressed with her attitude in the petting zoo. “Mom, it was a little bit scary, so I just was a little bit brave.” I was SHOCKED when she pet one of the goats without any encouragement from me. She and Jon high fived about it later when she told him all about it.
This is what happens when I want a fast cute picture with my kiddos. ZERO cooperation. Guess they are more used to me behind the camera than in front of it with them… Shannon tried. Then we gave up.
Regan was glued to this little slide.
After the zoo we stopped by McDonald’s for lunch and more playing.
Our attempts at getting a photo of all the children did not go very well at all.
Contrary to the facial expressions in many of these photos we had a blast on this adventure.

Halloween 2012

We started off our festivities with a ward Trunk-or-Treak party. It was so fun.
This year Kaylee wanted to be a scary bat. I lucked out and found her costume at Goodwill for just under five dollars. She was easy peasy this year. Lucky me.
I was going to have Regan wear his Woody pj’s and a cowboy hat and call it good. BUT Uncle Josh thought we should embrace Regan’s love affair with sword play. The idea grew on me and I sucked it up and altered some things found at Goodwill and whipped out a Dread Pirate Roberts costume.
I am SO glad I did. It was so cute!
I found and had Josh order an Inigo Montoya costume. Josh and Regan practiced their fight scene often before the big day. I should have got video. It was pretty awesome.
Eating yummy food before getting candy.
The fight!  Regan wasn’t a huge fan of the gloves or headpiece. People kept thinking he was Zorro. I eventually just stopped correcting them. We did have one of our neighbor gals actually recognize him as Wesley. I think she was the only one though.
One of our ward members had skeleton and coffin in the car.
The children Trunk-or-Treating. This was the Saturday before Halloween.
Halloween night. The children were SO excited to go get more candy. In fact Regan wore his costume to Kaylee’s Dr. appt, that morning, and all day long.
My scary bat and Wesley.
More sword play.
These too looked so good. It had me wishing I would have just done a whole Princess Bride theme.
But since I happily get to borrow my sister’s last year costume and Jon wears the same thing every year we didn’t do a theme. Some time we will though.
This is only their second year doing the door to door thing.
Josh ened up running back to the house to grab the stoller to speed things up a bit.
Two nights of candy gathering and not a single Butterfinger for their Mama! So sad. Meanwhile we have plenty of candy for Regan’s birthday pinata.
