I’ve mentioned before that Kaylee LOVES shoes. Well 6 1/2 months ago she got these cute sandals (ment for church use) from Auntie Jack’ee and Jason. And fell in LOVE. She insists on wearing them ALL THE TIME, and EVERYWHERE. And some nights it’s just not worth it to forcibly remove them from her feet. So she has many times slept in her favorite shoes. They are getting too small and snow is coming soon. So they will have to be hidden. They are MUCH loved, and MUCH worn out. Meanwhile she is FINALLY o.k. with others being without shoes on.

….next year I’ll be dead.
Abuela Cristina (in Spanish): “It was nothing. But this is the last year, because next year I’ll be dead.”
Me: “Promises, promises…” (give her a hug and kiss and tell her THANK YOU!)
This is the conversation I’ve had with my Abula for the last 11 or so years. It’s a lovely Birthday conversation really. Mom says she’s been saying she’s going to die next year since my Mom can remember. So as you can imagine it’s had to take her seriously.
Every year my Abuela and Mom make a feast for family and friends for my birthday dinner. It’s awesome! We have Pupusas. They are SO yummy. If you have never had them… well you are missing out big time.
Menu:
Pupusas (and all their fixins)
Blueberry pie
lemon pie
chocolate pie (for those who like that sort of thing)
We had my feast a day early so we could be extra lazy on Sunday and just drink in the conference talks. They were all so good this year. I feel like I get more out of the talks now that I’m a mama. I hope everyone had a lovely conference weekend.
A big thank you to everyone who came to help me eat!
It was maybe too quiet.
She was just right next to me sitting IN her toy tub. Emptied out first. So I decided to lean over and see just what was needing SUCH concentration. Since the camera was right next to me I clicked away.
Yup, she’s peeling the paper off her crayon(s). And no she is not wearing any pants. I’ve decided not to ask since I know what she will say. She would just say very nonchalantly, “I fixing it.” In Kaylee’s world paper does NOT belong on crayons. I have spent may quiet hours (yes hours) helping her “fix” her crayons. She is VERY particular when it come to tactile sensations. She is growing out of her aversions. Earlier she was (shockingly) playing with some stickers. And band-aids and tape are o.k.ish now. It’s been a work in progress. Someday (hopefully before schooling) she will be o.k. with papered crayons.
Oh, and lately I’ve been telling her, “Be careful with that (insert injured body part here) Mommy and Daddy made it from scratch.” In a vain hope to get her to pay attention and avoid bodily harm. But alas she is a mini me in that regard. So now Miss has been finishing my sentence, or telling me, “careful mommy daddy scratch” when I hurt myself. She also says it to Regan when he has the rare (there is hope for the boy) bonk occur.
And a one last Kayleeism for your entertainment. She has taken to interrupting me during triple naming. I’ve only managed to get out the Kaylee Isabella before she VERY quickly says, “SHHhhh. It’s quiet time. shh.” Which never fails to make me laugh. Girl KNOWS how to push my buttons, but also knows how to VERY efficiently defuse the angry Mommy bomb.
We sure love our little Miss and her strange (but delightful) ways.
