goodbye hair. goodbye carpet.

I have this friend (Carter’s Mama) and she’s pretty awesome. She ever so kindly cut Kaylee’s (long and ratty) hair for me (I didn’t dare. It’s been to long since I last cut it. We’re talking before bedrest with Regan!) She went to hair school so she’s all professional (I’m a wing it with the hair cutting hair kinda gal) and stuff. Anywhoo.

We did some prep. Talked about how Miss McKayle was going to cut her hair and make it all pretty for a few days before the event. And the morning of the hair cut I had Kaylee watch some you-tube videos of kids (made sure they were happy-shinny-sit-still-kids) getting hair cuts. She was interested and excited to walk down to Cater’s house and “get pretty”.

1- She wasn’t sure what to think as McKayle made the first cuts.
2- Then she started making faces. This one was the most common.
3- She did really good at holding still. Trying to look at things without moving her head and all…
4- I asked if she liked her new hair. She had to think about it. And decided that yes she did.
5- She did so well Miss Mckayle gave her a Popsicle!

She did so much better than I expected. The last few times I’ve cut Jon and Regan’s hair I’ve asked her if she wanted a turn. She always replied with a, “NOTHANKYOUVERYMUCH!” before running away.

(She also got 2 stickers and an orange sucker when we got home.)

She LOVES her short hair. And I am so excited that it will not be as crazy snarly since it’s short now. Plus it’s perfect summer hair! I may have to get mine chopped off as well…..

So remember our water heater issue, and how I said we may have to get rid of the carpet? Well it HAD to go. And we are NOT putting carpet or anything expensive down to possibly get ruined. So we opted for this awesomeness and couldn’t be happier.

I also caused us a TON more work by requesting (insisting) we lay it in a diamond pattern. BUT we both agree that getting the bigger size and doing the diamond pattern makes them look “fancier”.

We will eventually do the living room (it looks odd as is, but $$ was a factor so it’s waiting a bit), dining room, kitchen, and bathrooms. Eventually.

For now we are just thrilled with the new flooring and that Miss is breathing easy!

weekend conversations with the hubby

(Me and this guy here are like this now!)

So this was our Saturday afternoon conversation.

Jon: Why is the carpet wet? (as he is walking down the hall)

Janice: What!? (internally freaking because mysteriously wet carpet is NEVER a good thing)

Jon: Why is the carpet wet?

Janice: I heard you. I don’t know why it’s wet. (as I’m getting up to help investigate)

Jon: Well it’s soaked. (we are standing out side the water heater closet)

Janice: Crap!

The problem was indeed our water heater. And it was a Saturday afternoon! So we toughed it out and called the plumber on Monday (SO not paying weekend hours! yeash. we are poor. regular hours are good thanks.) morning.

Jon turned the heater off and we (I) just used cold for cleaning and stuff. And he would turn it back on (we aren’t crazy) when we needed to bath and shower.

Even keeping the thing mostly off I ended up soaking through several old towels. And our house smells like wet dog/moldy towels. And it’s like 20 degrees outside so airing out the house isn’t really an option.

(This is after 3 min. of using the Bissell to suck up the water. Filled up the tank 3 times before I could even think of adding water and cleaner to get rid of the smell.)

Sunday afternoon we had another fun conversation.

Jon: I think I’m going to call Bruce Thompson Plumbing. They have the best website.

Janice: (laughing) Ya?

Jon: They also have the best reviews and say they do water heaters.

Janice: Good. So stuff that I think matters too. (more laughing)

Well the lovely plumber man came this morning. Looked at our crappy water heater and informed us that we needed a new one AND new hot/cold flex supply lines. Sweet. (sarcasm!)

On the bright (hidden blessings) side:

We had planned on going to visit our friends this weekend, but then Regan was all snotsy and coughing so we decided it would be best to stay home. Never been so happy about a sick child. Can you imagine the horror we would have come home to?!

I was FINALLY able to clean UNDER the water heater (I’m a crazy clean UNDER things kind of gal). And now my water heater/broom closet is all shiny and newish looking.

Our new (clean/shinny/pretty) water heater is cooler (as in easier to use) than the old one, and does NOT look like it’s about to explode (that old thing was SO nasty and corroded and I forgot to get a picture!).

Also our sweet friend/neighbor Miss Pattie brought me her carpet shampooer to borrow. So that gross smell is gonish (we are thinking we may need to just rip out the carpet anyhow…), and I’ve decided that I may as well do all our carpets while I’ve got her machine. She’s totally awesome and we LOVE her. And clean carpets are ALWAYS awesome!

No basebords/drywall were water damaged.
