Jon’s hospital stay

We left the house in such a rush and I was in such a panic that I left the camera behind. You know it's a serious situation if I leave my camera behind.

It all started Tuesday after work. I called Jon at about five to see if he was already on his way home and to ask him what he wanted for dinner. He answered right away, but sounded odd. He told me he needed to see a Doctor. I asked if he was driving, and if he should be driving. He said he was just around the corner. And then he pulled up in front of the house.

He could hardly walk and had no color. He was complaining of chest pain and having a hard time breathing. He insisted that he was too young to be having a heart attack, and insisted on immediate care over the E.R.

We called Josh up to see if he was close to being home. So he could either take Jon, or stay with the children. He had not left work yet so I loaded the children up and we drove Jon to immediate care. Josh met us there and took the children to Joshily house where he and Emily fed and entertained them.

At immediate care it was determined that Jon was not having a heart attack. They sent us for a chest x-ray, and referred Jon to a cardiologist just in case. Wednesday morning he said he was feeling better. Went to work and was able to get into see the cardiologist, where again his heart checked out. He then came home and passed out. Just completely lethargic.

Thursday morning he said he was much better and despite my reservation insisted that I go ahead with plans to take the children to the Science Center. He promised he would call for an ambulance if he needed to. So I went. Reluctantly

When we got home that afternoon Jon was a mess. Worse was that he didn't realize it, or know how long he had been in such bad shape. I called Shannon and she turned around from dropping us off and picked the kids up to take to her house.

I loaded Jon into the car and headed to the hospital. He kept half passing out and was barely lucid. He could hardly string a sentence together. He said he knew what he wanted to say he just could find the words, and that his limbs were heavy. They took his vitals and got him a room in the E.R. Josh came to hang out with us while we waited on the E.R. Doc and tests. Josh got to see many episodes with me.

They ran a whole gambit of tests, and then the E.R. Doc admitted him to the hospital for overnight observation, And since this all started Tuesday with chest pain that is all anyone would focus on. So we had to re-rule out the whole heart attack thing again. Then they did tests to see if it was his lungs, or brain. Lots of blood work to see if anything was going on there too. It all came back normal.

He had his vitals being monitored the entire time, and they never changed during any of his episodes. Nurses that witnessed them even double checked his vitals during just to be sure the monitors were right. What was crazier was that between episodes aside from being extremely tired he was normal. It was like he was slowly waking from a foggy state.

When we found out we would be staying another night I went and grabbed the children to take them home so we could all shower. Emily and Josh came to the hospital so Jon wasn't alone. The kids (especially Kaylee) needed their skin ointments. Plus I needed the camera. After we got cleaned up and in fresh clothing we headed back for a little visit with Dad at the hospital.

Kaylee insisted on taking her Daddy Pups (the stuffed animal she got for her surgery), because, "Pups is a special hospital puppy. She will make Daddy feel better."  Kaylee was excited to see her Daddy looking like a giant Banana. He had to wear yellow because he was a fall risk. Regan just wanted to go back to Shannon's house. He was having a blast over there and was mad I took him away.

Jon and I missed the children and were happy to see them for a bit.

Jon and I were SO ready to go home. Hospitals are just not made for sleeping. Once it was determined that Jon was not going to die anytime soon we got the green light to go. We still don't know what or why is going on with Jon, but we do know that he is not as bad as he was, and that he is not in immediate danger. We have a few more Doctors and specialist lined up to see if we can't figure out what is going on with Jon's body.

We know that a whole lot of prayers were said on his behalf while we were in the hospital, and are ever grateful for your love and support. We will just keep praying and hope things keep improving.

Only me

So picture in your head my sweet husband shaking his head in disbelief and saying in a competently exasperated voice (while trying, but not succeeding not to laugh)“Only you. Only you.” To be fair I hear this a LOT. I’ve mentioned before that I’m accident pron. Poor Jon. It’s bad people. And now he has to watch out for Kaylee too! The poor dear is just like her Mama.

You ready for a VERY funny story? Mind you it HURTS to laugh, but it’s getting better everyday. But go ahead and laugh if it causes you no pain to do so. 😉

(Me at the hospital waiting to get an x-ray.)

So on Monday the 3rd I did a cardio DVD with Kaylee at home. Then I followed that up with some light weight arm toning. This where I a little bit killed myself. Yup with a tiny light 3 lb weight. I was doing some simple rows. I’ve done these tons and never have had a problem before.

After just 1/2 my reps I decided to stop because I was REALLY hurting. So I took some Ibuprofen and hit the shower.

Over the next week (yes week) I was popping pain killers like a mad women and NOT using my arm. But I was getting worse not better.

After a few nights of not sleeping (the pain was that bad. i’d pass out for bits at a time, but then wake up in a could sweat in pain.) Jon decided to really look at my shoulder. (This was on Sunday the 9th.) So I painfully removed my shirt so he could get a better look. Oh, man it looked bad. We thought it was dislocated. So Jon put his foot down and dragged me to the Dr.’s the following day.

At the Dr.’s office they were all very sweet trying not to laugh when I told them what I did, and how long it had been. They thought we were just messing with them at first. Then when they realized that we were seriouse they tried very hard to contain their many man snorts and giggles. I mean really people a 3 lb weight! It’s FUNNY!

Then I got to be held steady by one Dr., while another pulled, twisted, and shoved. LOVELY! The sweet Dr. A wrote me an Rx for some good pain killers so I could start sleeping. Then they shipped me off to the hospital to get x-rayed and make sure that I didn’t tear any bone and what not.

The x-ray’s showed that I did not tear any bone, or really dislocate my shoulder. I did however completely jack up my tendons. So I get to be on pain meds, use ice packs as much as possible, and wear this very stylish sling. Until everything feels better.

So lesson learned. No more weight lifting for me. If you can even call 3 lbs. weight lifting. Can you? hmmm….

Feel free to laugh at the absurdity of it all. I mean who damages them self seriously with a 3lb weight? Oh, that’s right I do!!! Makes me laugh every time. But then I am physically reminded that it HURTS to laugh.

Droid pictures

I chose to leave the camera at home and just use Jon’s phone. You know. One less thing to remember at 4:30 AM. Big long post previously posted full of the juicy details. Scroll down if you’d like to read all about it. Other wise enjoy a few pictures of our hospital visit.

Mama and Regan in our waiting room. Doesn’t he look so cute in his tiger gown?

Daddy and Regan watching “The Cat in the Hat knows a lot about that” while we are STILL waiting…….. Took forever. O.K. it just felt like forever, but it was quite the wait.

I had to get a picture of a drugged up Regan smile. This was when his favorite part (The “GO GO GO” song. He sings along.) came on after the nurse came and gave him a sedative. They took him back to the O.R. shortly after.

This is the “art work” that hangs above everyone in the waiting area. I named it Falling Death. Jon, the reception nurse, and fellow waiters all agree. Falling Death is scary even if you are surrounded by nurses, surgeons, and O.R.’s.

Jon took a photo standing right under it. Look at all those death spikes! After we went up stairs to get a different view.

This is the upstairs elevator lobby view. They are hard resin folded V’s hung by fishing line. One has already fallen. We sat on the outskirts of Falling Death and discussed, while eying the clock and the O.R. doors. Falling Death does not make relaxing art work. You should have relaxing art work while waiting in an O.R. waiting area.

I was SO SO SO happy to be holding my Mister Man. We are told he did great during the whole deal.

Our sweet nurse took this one of us. All our nurses and Dr.’s were just awesome. Really helped calm the Mama worries. The Daddy is always calm. He is my rock.

And last but not least. A cruddy picture of his first (sure to be more right?) I.V. bruise. This was the best one we got. He didn’t feel like cooperating much. We tired Saturday, and Sunday to get a decent one.

Thanks to all for the prayers, concern, and well wishes. You guys are the best!
