Easter 2013: a post where I ramble

Easter weekend this year was crazy SUPER busy. Thursday night I had all our out of towners plus the Days over for a just because I felt like it dinner. (I do stuff like that…)

But lets rewind. Jake arrived Sunday and Kaylee and I were very outnumbered all week with boy stuff. 🙂

Thursday Jon’s parents,  youngest sister (and her three cuties), and bother Jerris and his cute family got to town.

IMG_7535So that’s what spurred the everyone been traveling let’s just get everyone together for a family dinner visit thing. I had Jon call everyone (because I don’t care for calling people. It’s a thing…), and they came. Because if you feed them they will come. 😉
It was a fun night.

Play group rescheduled their Easter egg hunt to Friday morning. We skipped out because Friday was also Kaylee’s Birthday and party followed by Josh and Emily’s (Let’s just call them Joshily. Yes?)  pre-wedding family dinner that night. Also a day of family and fun.

Saturday was wedding day. And this a true testament to how crazy busy I was ALL weekend. I did not take ONE.SINGLE.PICTURE! The shame. Instead I was all, “Jon grab the camera!” and  “Dad! Take a picture!”  And they did, but I still hang my head in shame now….

So I have to wait for photos from the pro photographers. Booo.

Sunday the kiddos got spoiled with both sets of grandparents going to church with them. Four grandparents for two kids. Ya, they LOVED it.

Jon and I had decided to scrap the whole Easter egg hunt this year. Busy weekend and all. Ya, that plan fell through.

Kaylee upon arriving home from church says, “I am so excited to see what the Easter Bunny brought us!”

Me,”Ummm, I don’t think he has come yet. He is really busy today. If you wait a few minutes for him to finish at other houses we can go see what he brought. Okay?….”

Then I ran into my room and pulled out all the stuff I bought, but never put together. Good thing we skipped out on playgroup! Jon and I stuffed eggs like mad folk, and then he and Jake snuck outside and hid the eggs.

Kaylee was all, “WOW! The Easter bunny is fast.” You could hear the crickets after that remark…..

While they were out hunting eggs the ummm Easter Bunny left them some fun summer baskets. Kick boards and goggles for swimming, fun band-aids, and new sidewalk chalk were discovered in their new sandbox buckets and shovels. Plus their letter from Great Grandma Sapp.

IMG_7725Easter Sunday I had EVERYONE over for Thanksgiving dinner.  It was Yumm-O.  It was a crazy busy, but SUPER fun family weekend. We love our family so much, and love any excuse to see them and hang out.

The children ended their festivities playing Kaylee’s new Scooby-Do matching game with Papa. Regan stomped them. BAD!

He gave Papa a, “Great job matching game Papa!”, before heading off to bed.

Easter 2012

We had a nice quiet Easter Sunday. After the children woke up we headed to the living room for their surprise. Jon and I pulled the super lame-o parent card this Easter. I could only find the grass and not their baskets or eggs. I thought I was on top of it this year. I even had the candy ready to put into their eggs. But without the eggs or baskets we couldn’t do much. So since I didn’t realize until the night before when Jon asked me about it that I did not in fact know WHERE the baskets and eggs were, we had to make a late night run to the store. It was SLIM pickings. They had NO empty plastic eggs, OR empty baskets left. Pickings got even slimmer when we started reading all the labels for what was left. Darn food allergies. We ended up forking over more money for huge pre-done baskets.

Normally they get an empty basket lined with fake grass. They fill their baskets with plastic eggs filled with approved/safe sweets during the egg hunt.

Not too surprising the children were fine with what they saw in the morning.

The baskets did have fun things in them though….

The only thing I liked about this years eggs was our personal discovery of the confetti eggs. SO SO SO fun! I will be buying those every year that I remember.

The children were not sure what just happened. I had dumped the first egg on Regan to show them how it worked.

They caught on fast and had a blast with the confetti eggs. There other eggs were filled with stickers. Those were fun too.

After cleaning up all the confetti. We turned on some music and had a dance party.

Regan really likes Kaylee’s little guitar. And he was really getting into head banging while playing it.

Before going to church we watched the He is Risen video with the children to help explain the real purpose of Easter. Kaylee was fascinated. She has requested watching , “The Jesus movie.” several times since.

After church we headed over the the Day’s house. Shannon made an AMAZING Easter dinner. And the cousins taught the children the joys of egg wars. Kaylee was a bit worried about the eggs. She told me a few times, “But Mom, I allergic to eggs.” It took a bit to convince her that she would be fine as long as she didn’t eat them.

Becca won. She’s said this was normal. She wins every year. She’s too cute!

Regan didn’t wait for a battle. He just cracked his egg open on his own.
