Kaylee ties her own shoes!

"I did it! It was hard, but I kept pracasing. I never gave up. I got frustrated, but I remembered to take a deep breath, and keep trying. And Look Mom. I did it!"

Kaylee was very excited to when she got lace up shoes. She was very eager to learn to tie her own shoes. We've been practicing almost every day before school. Some days she would practice on both shoes, but most she would do one shoe with LOTS of help, and then be done.

I decided to be SUPER laid back with it, and not push it at all. I didn't want her toss in the towel. And today she insisted on doing it all by herself, and did! She was SO excited that she did the second shoe as well!

I am so proud of her! Tying laces is hard, and she gets frustrated easily when things are difficult. It really did take lots of deep breaths, but she never gave up. We talked about how when we really want something hard work and lots of patience go a long way. I think she is slowly starting to get that concept.

She was on cloud nine ALL DAY LONG. Her good behavior punch card got filled up so she got to choose a prize from the treasure box, plus it's Friday which means pizza and no homework. She was SO giddy about her "awesomest day ever!" when I went to pick her up from school. On our way home we hit up the library for some movies. She is currently sleeping in a fort in the living room.

I miss being five. The simple life.

Labor day

I asked Jon to take pictures of the festivities. He took four pictures. FOUR! I found out in the car on the way home. Three of the four where decent.

Me: Only four pictures?

Jon: There's only so many pictures you can take of people swimming.

Me: Um, no. There's LOTS of pictures you can take of people swimming.

Meanwhile we had a blast with family and friends. Jack'ee even drove up to spend the day with us. We got to see her two days in a row!

We went and met Jack'ee and Jason at Ikea Saturday morning. It's about midway between our houses. Also I needed to find a couple things. Like a hidey hole table for the printer, and a new area rug for the living room.

I foolishly left the camera at home, and missed some awesome photo ops. 🙁 But that night I caught Kaylee "just reading instructions to build a bench." And I told her not to move while I ran to get the camera. After five years she is a pro at the whole "don't move I'll be right back" thing.
